HQ-XX Series Wedge Flowmeters
I. Main Characteristics of the HQ-XX Series Wedge Flowmeters
The wedge flowmeter is a differential pressure type flow instrument. It uses a special orifice device installed inside to force the flow of fluid in the pipeline to change. A pressure difference is generated between the front and back of the orifice device, thereby achieving the purpose of measuring flow.
The orifice device of the wedge flowmeter is a detection piece with a special angle; the two sides are smooth circular surfaces, and the top angle of the V-shaped wedge piece is downward, which is conducive to the smooth passage of liquids containing suspended particles or viscous liquids with moisture or impurities, without causing stagnation, adhesion, or precipitation at the upstream side of the orifice. Based on the unique structure of the orifice device of the wedge flowmeter, the fluid in the pipeline does not undergo a sudden contraction, and the change in fluid pressure is relatively gentle. The differential pressure signal is more stable, ensuring flow measurement, especially for small flow values. The wedge flowmeter has no deposition or clogging and has a wide range of applications. It is not only used for general gases, liquids, and steam, but is also particularly suitable for the flow measurement of high viscosity, crystalline mixtures, dirty liquids, and high dust-containing gases.
II. Composition of the HQ-XX Series Wedge Flowmeters
The HQ-XX series wedge flowmeters are mainly composed of wedge sensors, intelligent flow calculators, differential pressure transmitters, and some accompanying pipeline valve components.

III. Main advantages of the HQ-XX series wedge flowmeters
1. Generate a more stable differential pressure signal, enabling more accurate measurement of small flow rates.
The wedge flowmeter causes the fluid to gradually contract, and its flow changes smoothly, thereby reducing the amplitude of pressure in the flow field. The generated differential pressure signal is more stable, allowing for smaller distinguishable differential pressure signals, which is beneficial for the measurement of small flow rates.
2. Resistant to dirt and contamination, self-cleaning ability, no stagnant flow zone
The flowmeter's orifice plate uses a detection piece with a special angle; both sides are smooth circular surfaces, and the top angle of the V-shaped wedge piece is downward. This is conducive to the smooth passage of liquids containing suspended particles or viscous liquids, as well as gases containing moisture or impurities. At the same time, the fluid flows close to the V-shaped wedge piece, increasing the fluid flow velocity, and the high-speed fluid directly washes the V-shaped wedge piece and the inner wall of the pipe without generating stagnant flow, adhesion, or sedimentation at the upstream side of the orifice plate.
3. Capable of measuring bidirectional flow
The detection piece of the wedge flowmeter adopts a specially symmetrical V-shaped structure. Using two transmitters, one flowmeter can measure both the forward and reverse flow.
4. Good stability, high long-term operating accuracy, and high reliability
Due to the V-shaped wedge piece design of the wedge flowmeter, the V-shaped wedge piece will guide the fluid away from the tail edge of the orifice plate, reducing the possibility of its wear. The size of the orifice plate remains unchanged over the long term, and there are no movable or easily damaged components, ensuring the long-term operation of the instrument.
5. Pressure loss is 10%-20% of that of a orifice plate
The V-shaped wedge piece of the wedge flowmeter causes the fluid to gradually contract, preventing the sudden change in flow like that of an orifice plate. Therefore, the pressure loss caused by friction and the generation of vortices is relatively smaller than that of an orifice plate.
